Our Journey of Empowerment

Njia Empowerment Organisation (NEO) is a fully registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Kenya, established with a clear mandate: ensuring that vulnerable women and girls, especially the visually impaired, are empowered to become independent and positively impact the world.

Founded in Trans-Nzoia County, NEO emerged from the recognition that visually impaired women and girls face unique challenges that often go unaddressed. We identified a critical gap in services and support specifically tailored to their needs in the North Rift region of Kenya.

Today, NEO stands as the only organization specifically working with the visually impaired in Trans-Nzoia County and the broader North Rift region. Our work extends beyond mere assistance - we build capacity, foster independence, and create sustainable pathways to self-reliance.

Why We Exist

Addressing critical challenges faced by visually impaired women and girls in Kenya

1

Educational Barriers

Visually impaired girls face significant challenges accessing quality education due to lack of specialized resources, trained teachers, and inclusive learning environments in our region.

2

Economic Exclusion

Limited access to vocational training and employment opportunities leaves visually impaired women economically dependent and vulnerable to poverty and exploitation.

3

Social Stigma

Deep-rooted cultural beliefs and stigma often marginalize visually impaired women, limiting their social participation and access to community resources and support systems.

4

Limited Specialized Support

As the only organization specifically serving the visually impaired in the North Rift region, we fill a critical gap in specialized services and targeted empowerment programs.

5

Healthcare Access

Visually impaired women often struggle to access appropriate healthcare services, including reproductive health education and specialized medical care for their unique needs.

6

Leadership Representation

The absence of visually impaired women in leadership and decision-making roles means their unique perspectives and needs are often overlooked in community development.
